Air by Peter Adey5/30/2023 Items in order will be sent as soon as they arrive in the warehouse. Combining established figures such as Joseph Priestley, John Scott Haldane, and Marie Curie with unlikely individuals from painting, literature, and poetry, this richly illustrated book unlocks new perspectives into the science and culture of this pervasive but unnoticed substance. Going beyond how vital air has been to our philosophical, scientific, and technological pursuits, he also reveals the way that the artistic and literary imagination has been lifted through air and how, in air, cultures have learned to express and inspire each other. In this innovative cultural and scientific history, Peter Adey takes stock of the great ocean of air that surrounds us, exploring our attempts to understand, engineer, make sense of, and find meaning in it. Adey examines how humans have managed and manipulated air as a natural resource and, in doing so, have been taken to the limits of survival, brought to high-altitude mountain peaks, subterranean worlds, and the troughs of new moral depths. Long one of the essential elements to life on earth-from the atmospheric composition that gave life to the coal-forming forests some three hundred million years ago to the air that fuels our most important technologies today-we think little of its incredible properties. Outside of yoga class, we don't pay too much attention to the air we take in every day.

Fade lisa mcmann summary5/29/2023 Their relationship still must be a secret, but they're happy and supportive of each other. Summary: The book opens happily: Janie and Cabel are happy and have settled into a high school, virginal version of domestic bliss. Please feel free to skip ahead to my review. Thankfully, I discovered Lisa McMann's book late enough that the sequel was already out (book three, Gone, will be published in February 9, 2010.)īecause this book is the second in a series, there may be some spoilers for the first novel. Background: I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Wake, and my one complaint was that there wasn't enough of the story I wanted more.

Nick morgan can you hear me5/29/2023 The truth is, virtual communication breeds misunderstanding because it deprives us of the emotional knowledge that helps us understand context. We’ve all felt disconnected and bored in a video conference, frustrated that we’re not getting through on the phone, or upset when our email is badly misinterpreted. But whenever there’s a glitch with the technology or a message is unclear, we’re reminded that the quality of human connection we experience in many forms of virtual communication is awful. Warriors 6 the darkest hour5/29/2023 Although this book did tie loose ends for the series, it didn’t close well. The last few chapters felt rushed and the ending was abrupt. Erin Hunter did a great job describing and fleshing out the many warrior cats. I’ve probably said that about all of the Warrior books, but it’s true. The characters were, once again, very well done. I loved every second and couldn’t put it down. There were some moments when I thought, ‘this is getting pretty predictable’, but every time things got slow, the author gave me another plot twist. The action and suspense never ended and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. If I could describe this book in one word, it would definitely be ‘intense’. Will Thunderclan and Windclan be able to save it or will it fall into the hands of Tigerstar? Meanwhile, Shadowclan and Riverclan plan to take over the forest. Firestar is adjusting to his life as a clan leader and is plagued with the prophecy he received at the Moonstone.
